The Absinthe
Explore Absinthe
The Wormwood Society’s Absinthe Reviews Page is dedicated to providing unbiased product reviews based on a criteria developed over more than two decades that compares absinthes to what was consumed during the height of absinthe’s popularity during the Belle Epoque. We welcome consumers, mixologists, bartenders, brand ambassadors, distillers, and the general public to peruse our expert reviews as well as post their own!
Our standards are rooted in the documented characteristics of authentic absinthe from the mid to late 19th century. These qualities have been verified through modern scientific testing—such as GC/MS analysis—as well as organoleptic evaluation of many surviving vintage bottles.
We believe that when someone seeks out absinthe, they’re looking for the true Belle Époque experience—the same spirit enjoyed by Van Gogh, Baudelaire, Rimbaud, Verlaine, Satie, and Toulouse-Lautrec. What aromas, flavors, and visual qualities did the patrons of the Moulin Rouge or the Cabaret du Chat Noir encounter when they raised a glass?
This historical benchmark is the foundation by which we evaluate and compare today’s absinthes.
