Odd little blanche

Tasting of Batch #3
APPEARANCE: Crystal clear. No sediment or cloudiness.
LOUCHE: Opaque and appropriate, but nothing really interesting. No real opalescence.
AROMA: Complex - baby powder, floral, cinnamon, and come acridity (star anise?).
FLAVOR/MOUTHFEEL: orange blossom water, anise, winter herbs. OK, but something is just a bit 'off' from what I normally expect. A bit too citrussy and floral, I think.
FINISH: Some bitterness, some astringency, and minty. Slightly numbing.
OVERALL: A decent take on absinthe by the distiller. They're definitely pushing boundaries, but I'd still consider it 'authentic', if idiosyncratic.
